Preheat oven to 250°. Butter a round 9 x 3-inch cake pan with a removable bottom and line with 1 piece of foil, pushing the foil onto the bottom, up the sides and over the rim smoothly and without tearing. (Foil which is 12 inches wide can be used, but you will then need 2 pieces. Overlap them and fold them together as smoothly as possible. You do not want the batter to leak through.) Lightly but thoroughly butter the foil.
