Description
Composting is the aerobic microbial decomposition of organic matter into stable humus, CO₂, and water.
Technical
During composting, cellulolytic, hemicellulolytic, and proteolytic enzymes break down polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids into monomers that microbes oxidize. The process generates heat (thermophilic phase) and drives the formation of humic acids through condensation reactions, while maintaining redox balance and nutrient cycling.
