Technical
The process heats water to near‑boiling (~100 °C) in a closed vessel, allowing volatile terpenes such as geraniol and citronellol to vaporize and condense in a reflux condenser. Precise temperature control below 120 °C preserves terpene integrity, while efficient reflux prevents loss of aromatic compounds. The resulting liquid contains 0.1–0.5 % essential oil and a mildly acidic pH of 4.5–5.0.
