Set rack at middle level and pre-heat to 350 degree oven. Cream butter with sugar until thoroughly mixed. Mix in eggs one at a time. Mix milk and vanilla in a measuring cup with a spout. Set aside. Sift dry ingredients together into a bowl. Set aside. Into the bowl with the butter/sugar/eggs mixture, alternately add the other mixtures, starting and ending with the flour mixture and mixing thoroughly each time. Add 1 cup boiling water. Beat 2-3 minutes at medium speed. Grease 8-inch layer pans or 9x12 cake pan. Pour batter in. Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes. Cool completely before frosting or glazing. ENJOY!!!
